Mikael Carstanjen follows time honored traditions in making his unique stoneware pottery. A variety of different techniques is used to shape the clay for this distinctive line of work, including wheel work, drape molds and use of a British Jigger Wheel. After forming, each piece is individually finished with a blue slip and applied sea shell motif. Glazed and carefully fired to 2300 degrees Fahrenheit for durability, this rugged stoneware is functional as well as decorative. From the first step to the last, each piece of Sea Shell pottery is handmade at Mikael's Orleans studio and signed with the potter's own stamp. All work is lead free, food and dishwasher safe.
